 Holy Grounds Coffee & Tea is a dedicated to serving the communities of North East Los Angeles by providing a fun, vibrant, peaceful environment. We offer  free wifi, an outdoor patio, space rental and community events along with some of the best coffee and pastries in town!


Join us as we feature our newest members to the ZZyZx WriterZ: Karineh Mahdessian & Chris Cakeshop Penalber! We are proud to have such raw talent in our outfit of creative misfits.

Karineh has proven to be the LA Poetry scene' s rookie of the year! She learned english by reading nancy drew books and watching married with children. she has a great affinity for really large earrings. she enjoys tacos from highland park taco trucks. she will challenge anyone to a thumbwrestling match. anytime. anyplace. she always has her chess set riding around in the trunk of her car. and she is absolutely in love with haikus.

Chris 'Cakeshop' Penalber is a self taught artist, woodworker, musician,poet/writer who also curates and organizes art/music events in and around the san gabriel valley. he's based out of la puente, in the heart of the sgv, but hails from ELA originally. growing up in ELA had a huge effect on what he would come to produce in his later years, involving artists, poets and musicians, bringing a little ELA to wherever he sets camp. his art is multi medium, including woodwork, pastiche, acrylics, aerosol, salvaged material. he doesnt like 'labels' but does refer to himself as a 'conduit'. his first love is the word.
